Dewey Beats Truman and the Giants Win the Big One ... wait a minute:

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/chronicle/archive/2002/11/03/SP110245.DTL

In a brilliant, but cruel twist, in Sunday's sports section the Chronicle ran a bunch of summaries from sportswriters that are the Giants version of "Dewey Beats Truman." As Gwen Knapp wrote on the front page, "may you read wistfully." My personal favorite is Ray Rattos' (no surprise!), who wrote:

"Forty-five years isn't all that long . . . unless you really are one of the few people who have truly waited that long for the Giants to pay off on their yearly promises to win the World Series. But for you precious wacky few, 45 years was an eternity. It took .... a dugout full of smart, talented, tough-minded people to take your call after so much time on hold."
