NET is faster, er wait .... And we thought Clinton Waffled:

After creating quite a stir in the J2EE developer community, Ed Roman takes it all back.

http://www2.theserverside.com/home/thread.jsp?thread_id=16398&;article_count=132

http://www.middleware-company.com/j2eedotnetbench/message.shtml He caused quite a bit of heartache and handwrining, but apparently, he didn't get it quite right. It's too bad that TMC and Mr. Roman did not think ahead about the possible ramifications of what they were doing; now that they said the 1st round didn't count and are doing a 2nd round, it's hard to take them seriously. Will this one be the "Right one?"

Meanwhile, an ex-Middleware Company employee (apparently w/ an axe to grind), weighs in on the matter from Europe: http://dreambean.com/petstore.html  All in all, it's quite the drama ... better luck in this next round.

Web Services Start-up gets funding

Web Services management start-up, Amberpoint -- formerly known as Edgility -- received another round of financing today: http://www.amberpoint.com/page.cgi?content=news_pr_display&;pr=16&leftnav=ln_news They closed $13.6 million in a "B round," led by Crosslink Capital  http://www.crosslinkcapital.com/) with existing investors Sutter Hill and Norwest returning. Amberpoint's management team, led by John Hubringer and Paul Butterworth. is chuck-full of software industry veterans who were responsible for Forte and Ingres. Great to see a web services start-up actually getting funding in this environment.

Good to see that the Web is not dead

This is a bizarre story that CNN picked up (http://www.cnn.com/2002/TECH/internet/11/11/save.karyn.ap/index.html ) apparently, it has run in People Mag and on the "Today," show, but I blissfully missed it, as I'm not a regular, um, consumer of the previous 2 outlets. Essentially, some woman with a major spending problem panhandled over the web and has been able to pay off $20k. Why give to real charity when you can help someone pay off Prada and Citibank, right? Anyway, here's her site: www.savekaryn.com

As well as a competing site, sort of: http://www.dontsavekaryn.com/index.html
