Spartak Somerville - Basketball
The 1-3 Spartak Hoops team took the court last night and faced the B Division leaders who despite being nameless, still managed to put up a 3-0-1 record in the first 4 games of the season.

After getting long bombed to death in the first half, it quickly became clear why the nameless ones are leading the division...those guys can shoot! They also were pretty scrappy and despite making several turnovers, they found people open underneath just often enough to be irritating.

The highlight of the evening was probably Tim's three quarter court shot at the halftime buzzer which he calmly - albeit improbably - drained like it was no big thing. Unfortunately, that shot only cut the deficit to 21-11.

The second half saw Team Spartak step it up on the defensive end as usual and we outhustled the other guys, holding them to only 12 points but Spartak's offensive woes continued and we were only credited with 9 second half points (there was some confusion and the opposing team may have not been keeping track of our score properly but it was close enough)...we certainly missed Jay, Andy, and Christine out there...without much of an outside game we had trouble working the ball to open shooters so as usual, we ended up trying to force things on offense and ended up with almost as many turnovers as baskets.

Anyway, the second half defensive effort made it a reasonably satisfying night and hopefully we can get back on track next time out.
