Aggregating Knoxville Because I spent the spring writing about Really Simple Syndication software and services, then moved to Knoxville, I've been looking for RSS news feeds here in my new home town. I knew local early-adopter webloggers like South Knox Bubba and Instapundit would offer RSS feeds, but it was a pleasant surprise to find that the City of Knoxville has a feed that lets you subscribe to the city's press releases and announcements. (It looks like this unless you have an RSS reader program or use a service like My.Yahoo or Bloglines to keep track of your RSS feeds online.) So far the local news media don't seem to be on the RSS bandwagon, or I've just blurred past the telltale orange XML links. However, WKRN 2 in Nashville has RSS feeds for news and sports, which might suggest its WorldCom sister station WATE 6 in Knoxville could be next. In fact, to see how closely the two sites' database shares things, compare this link with the WKRN one above. And of course services like MyRSS will build you a headline feed for newspapers like The Tennesseean, but when a publication provides its own feeds it can be much more creative -- and let others be creative with the feeds, like this RSS-based New York Times summary. 6:51:25 PM    comment []
