Why does this make me wince a little? | "Macromedia Lays Out Strategy for More Uses for Flash Player. Macromedia, the publisher of the popular Flash Internet media player, plans to unveil a course today to secure its role in the next generation of the Internet. By John Markoff." [New York Times: Technology]
...I've booked a seat at the Macromedia show and tell next week.. I'm not sure whether I love this or hate it yet. I haven't liked the marketing line the company has taken so far, but as I've said before I think that with the promise of Web Services and XML based applications I can see some application of non-browser based interfaces slowly gaining some acceptance... I'm just not sure I'm ready for another version of the 'Browser Wars" and a proprietary lock-in just as we are getting some universal standards adopted and implemented by the current browser developers.
