A stately pleasure-dome decree | DW is onto Ted Nelson, Ted seems to cop it every 5 or so years. When I read about Xanadu in the '80s it stopped me in my tracks - this guy actually thought it was possible to link the sum of all human knowledge and make it accessible to all! I was talking with someone about it recently, as I mention Ted on my website, I said it struck me as ironic that the more technology we throw at the idea, the more costly and less accessible it becomes.. this must break the guy's heart.

Scott sums it up for me, if you publish on the web then use (X)HTML - if your text doesn't wrap in my browser its hard to read and I have to use the Back button to Navigate to your centralized Menu - its about accessibility right?.. making knowledge discoverable isn't enough - you have to get it into a brain - but keep on pushing us Ted, I take your point.

My young friend, you can't scoff in public at an idea I have by pretending you have some knowledge, then ask me privately to help you understand it - it doesn't work that way! Here's a check list, just remember Compliance and Commitment are two different things. Permalink
