meow! I'm back. okay, this is the point which I'm supposed to say sorry for being away for so long and I'll try to keep up. oh, how many journal entries have I started like that!!! holdingon.jpg but hey, I could go to the other extreme. I'm reading a cool book by David Isay and Harvey Wang, Dreamer, Visionaries, Eccentrics and other American Heroes, it documents interesting and eccentric people from around the United States. One of the people they profile journals every single moment of the day, everything. He hasn't left his home town for years, because then he falls behind in his journal.

here's an excerpt from his diary:
12:20-12:25 I discharged urine.
12:25-12:30 I stripped to my thermals. I failed to mention that the Tri City Herald weighed in this morning at 1 lb, 11 1/2 ounces. It was the heaviest paper we have ever had to my knowledge, lacking only a 1/2 oz. of being 1 3/4. Think of that.
12:30-12:50 I ate leftover Bumble Bee Alaska red salmon, about seven ounces, while I guzzled 10 oz. Orange juice and read the Oxford Dictionary of Quotations.
12:50-1:45 I was at the keyboard of my ibm wheelwriter making entries for my diary.
1:45-2:00 I picked up the dining room table so Grace could prepare dinner for David Isay and Harvey Wang. I put things away. I washed my hands...

Wow, there's a point where you have to live a little. So that's how I explain my absence, I've been living. Working crazy hours, looking for a house, transitioning my computer, gardening, lots and lots of things. I've never had access to a garden before, at least not since my dad had me weed theirs. But this is different, and has changed how I see the world around me. I can't wait for the tomatoes to appear, and in the meantime, I am surprised how much I am enjoying the process of poking around, planting things, scheming, thinking about how to make a butterfly and bird garden. In order to plant the food, me and my furry forest friend had to pull up California poppies (we left one patch), which I absolutely love, such a simple flower with a beautiful soothing orange color (someone told me after it's illegal to pull them out because they're the state flower, true?). Anyway, for days after that I noticed every poppy around, and felt a connection, because I really knew what the plant looked like, having just spent intimate time with it.
