Military exemptions threaten 30 years of environmental law Clean Air and Clean Water Acts Endangered Species Act National Environmental Policy Act Marine Mammal Protection Act All of these Acts are in danger. The Bush Administration would like to pass mass exemptions for the military. These exemptions and ammendments are likely to be added to the Supplemental Defense Appropriations Act (funding legislation) for the war in Iraq or the Defense Authorization Bill. For example, some of these proposals exempt the Navy from the provisions of the Marine Mammal Protection Act. The use of loud active sonars used by the Navy have been implicated in the deaths and strandings of dozens of whales around the world. write your your representative or senator 12:45:20 PM comment [] ![]() |
