go kitty go!
'if Phillip K. Dick had written an episode of Hello Kitty, it would look something like this'

tamala 2010, an animated movie about a punk space kitty--playing at the castro theater in a couple of weeks. just got a kitten, looks just like her, seems plausible that she's a space kitty.

blogster
and so that last post made me wonder what my kick-ass friend robynn's up to.

she linked to the meatrix--which is an awesome flash film about the meat industry. though, after that flick, i'm still more inclined to not eat meat altogether...!

for this and many other practical lessons...

personal narratives
my friend mike, old friend of my sweetie donovan, just started blogging. it's reassuring to read other people thinking about life and meaning out there. so if you're a friend of mine, start blogging! i want to know what you're up to!

anywhooo, mike wrote a list of non-fiction books that have inspired him, prompting me to think of the autobio and bio books happily sitting on my bookshelf.

  • living my life--autobio of emma goldman, 19th century anarchist
  • autobio malcom x
  • miles from nowhere--a couple quits their jobs to do a round the world bike trip
  • i, rigaberta menchu--autobio of guatemalan woman
  • mayor of castro street--about the life and times of harvey milk
  • coming of age in mississippi--autobio of anne moody who came of age in the rural south during the civil rights era
  • a taste of power--elaine brown, former black panther
  • angry women--interviews with uncompromising women
  • farewell to manzanar--japanese american woman's account of her family's internment during WWII
  • holding on--radio producer david isay's interviews of people on the fringe
  • a life of her own--rural turn of the century french anarchist
  • survival in auschwitz--primo levi
here's to all of the forgotten ones I returned to the library!

an activist spa
weeklong intensive training camps for activists:

Participants split their time between theoretical/ strategic workshops focusing on a wide array of advanced campaign skills and hands-on technical training in tactics for nonviolent demonstrations. The objective of each Action camp is to provide participants with the opportunity to share strategies, facilitate leadership development, and build relationships that will help to spawn more collaboration in the form of alliance, networks, and coalitions.

they also have a techie camp.
