I finally figured out how work is different than, say, being president of the campus ACM.
Now, people help me and answer questions like it's their job. Because it is.
Before, no one cared.
Addendum: Let me clarify. I think it's because there was a bigger disconnect between "status levels": We were students asking for resources ($, rooms, time) from those with power. It wasn't a peer relationship like it is at work: we weren't in the same boat as the professors. We tried to change stuff, but, fundamentally, our primary goal was to get the hell out of there as soon as possible. (Compared to work, where we never want to leave.)
