"Estimated shipdate: When it is ready" -- Samba 3.0 Roadmap

I guess that's one benefit of being an Open Source developer. I don't know about the customer impact, though...

Come to think of it, are there people dedicated to testing within open source projects, or is it mostly performed by developers or end-users?

Gudge and Jeff have blogs. The Microsoft delegation to the W3C is now working out in the open... [Don Box's Spoutlet]

Nice... Jeff's take on header blocks is good reading.

Good Article on when to read your email and when to code. [Sean 'Early' Campbell & Scott 'Adopter' Swigart's Radio Weblog]

Excellent article. I can't work without headphones and I add Slashdot to my hosts file at work to prevent getting off-topic. My computer background while I was working on my thesis was, "You should be working."

As far as email, I found that I got more productive/effective with the following dual-head setup:

  • 19" Monitor 1: Visual Studio or Word, Command prompts, etc.
  • 19" Monitor 2: Outlook with the folder view almost fully expanded (I generally hide the 'Mailing Lists' folder): I can see where new mail goes and act/ignore immediately.

I found out the hard way that if I have Outlook closed, I tend to miss meetings.

It'd be neat to see Microsoft do studies about stuff like this: there's a large sample size, for sure... "When do you come into work? When/where do you eat lunch?" etc. (Didn't IBM do a study that showed that their developers spent like N% of the day walking around?)

I got my headphone amplifier today... I must say that I'm not impressed so far. I'll try it at work with my better headphones; maybe I'll notice the difference then. If not, it's going back to Headroom...
