A review of the Snap Server 1100, network attached storage appliance [ArsTechnica]. 2:56:51 PM Here's an "ask Slashdot" thread that deals with the concept of distributed filesystems [Distributed Data Storage on a LAN?]. There are several options listed (some of which I had not heard of). I didn't notice anyone mention anything about the Google File System [Sept 29]. 2:09:33 PM "On Friday afternoon, Ian Murdock, the founder of the Debian GNU/Linux project and co-founder of Progeny, announced a status update of his company's Debian work. Murdock made two very important announcements: the porting of Red Hat's Anaconda installer tool to Debian, and a modification of Debian's APT package tool which will allow it to use both RedHat and Debian packages" [ArsTechnica]. 9:33:17 AM DataLens is an innovative user interface for working with your calendar and appointments [DataLens demo][via Jon's Radio]. By the way, I got back from India on Sunday. It was great. I will be posting photos this weekend, most likely. 9:04:45 AM
"By introducing a small but steadily rising tax on petrol, America would do far more to encourage innovation and improve energy security than all the drilling in Alaska's wilderness" [Economist.com]. 9:02:14 AM I'm in India. My goal in trying to figure it out was, of course, to be able to perform the feat myself. I still can't do an ollie very effectively, but now I know why it works in the first place. I guess that's a partial win. 3:28:21 PM I little UNIX humor [jasun's blog]: # unzip ; strip ; touch ; finger ; mount ; fsck ; more ; yes ; umount ; sleep Build your resume in XML and automatically generate HTML, PDF and RTF versions [XMLRésuméLibrary]. 11:37:23 AM

The line between the Internet and the real world has just gotten a little bit more blurry. An Australian company will now take your physical mail, scan it and transform it to email [Slashdot]. All you have to do have your snail mail delivered to them. Great idea for those of us who are tired of getting paper cuts from opening envelopes. 11:19:10 AM |
