Soul starvation, a way of life (For techheads, here's why you need a dog [and not robodog, either]) If you're a tech head, you have a busy life. Wireless applications, networks, programming perl, programming Radio, hacking XML, hacking Windows... you can do it all. In fact, you're so good at it, your days whiz by in blur. You never take time for yourself. You're always answering questions and you need a break. A dog will reconnect you with your inner self: you can look legitimately busy when you take it out for a walk -- and you can smell the rain, look at the clouds, listen the sounds of nature, and enjoy some much needed companionship.
So here's what to do: Read Alan Cohen's book, "Why Your Life Sucks," (which makes a compelling case for connecting with your inner self... otherwise, your life sucks) and then go get a dog... , if Chris Pirillo can do it, you can too; maybe that's why he's so successful...

Woman who left dog in Jeep faces cruelty charge Texas A woman left her dog for one hour in her jeep while she went inside a restaurant and ate. The woman had left the jeep's vinyl windows partially unzipped. Although the temperature was only 81 degrees with a humidity of 67 percent, the heat index inside the jeep was 84 degrees and the dog still died.
A dog can die in 5 minutes in a car left in the sun. Cars acts as a magnifier to the sun's heat ; animals left inside cars in the sun, even with the windows rolled down, can die quickly...

Therapy dogs help patients in long-term care facilities "Study finds statistical evidence that animal-assisted therapy reduces loneliness in LTC residents. Animal-assisted therapy can effectively reduce the loneliness of residents in long-term care facilities according to a study by Marian R. Banks of the VA Medical Center in St. Louis and William A. Banks of St. Louis University School of Medicine Missouri." Even one session of 30 minutes per week was effective in reducing loneliness to a significant degree...

When dogs attack Arizona Tucson Animal Control takes a no-nonsense, well ordered approach to dog attacks, with laws that penalize the attacking dog and owner, if negligent. To begin with, The Tucson Police Department only gets involved in dog bite cases if there is a criminal element. The focus begins with ensuring safety and welfare, including medical attention to the victim. Laws to discourage owners from permitting their dogs to roam freely include: "If your unleashed dog bites a leashed dog, he is deemed "destructive" and the owner is given a fine from $200 to $25,000. If your pet attacks you, you must report it to Animal Control. If an animal owner is issued a citation, the person bitten can ask for restitution to pay for medical bills and property damages..."
