Does it count as an inquiry every time that I look at my credit?

When you look at your own credit report, it is called a consumer disclosure and classified as a "soft inquiry." Creditors and prospective credit grantors are not allowed to see it.

Probably, the main reason for your concern is that multiple inquiries in a short period of time tend to lower your credit score. For example, if you apply for several different credit cards in a period of a few months, there's reason to believe you might be overextending yourself.

Your own inquiries are not used in the score calculation.  Here's more about inquiries and your credit score.

Your 3-bureau credit report is likely to show most everything you owe, or once owed. From the report, it is an easy matter to contact the companies. Additional help with phone numbers and addresses may be found in this huge online database of creditor addresses and phone numbers.
