Jury Awards Lady 5 Million for Credit Report error
A similar first name, identical birth year, and a Social Security number that was off by just one digit caused someone's bad credit to show up on the credit report of someone else.
The victim thought she got the problem corrected by contacting the credit bureau and the creditors that furnished the information - but the error reappeared 3 years later, causing a mortgage application to be delayed 3 months.
It remains to be seen what will happen on appeal, but this case illustrates that you should check your credit report, and check it again regularly.
