New El Niño deluge coming to Southern California
Wetter, stormier winter predicted
A stronger-than-expected El Niño system will bring wetter and stormier winter weather to parched Southern California -- possibly even a repeat of the deadly rains of a decade ago, forecasters said Thursday.
The last time L.A. had a serious El Niño, we nearly floated away. The infrastructure of L.A. was not designed with heavy rains in mind. Storm drains are inadequate, streets flood, homes are perched precariously on steep hillsides and vulnerable to mudslides. Streets in the canyons are narrow and twisty and can be difficult to negotiate in heavy rains. Plus, when it rains here, it really rains.
As for a deluge of rain helping our drought. Nope, all our water comes from hundreds of miles away, rainfall here matters not... UNQUOTE [Bob Morris: The Politics of Water]
