The reason I haven't posted much this last week is that I have been playing with Legos, reading my new book The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay, playing the latest version of Grand Theft Auto (My brother got it for Christmas. It is sick and boring but I still have to take part in this cultural phenomenon of ultra violent video games)..
Driving home after playing several hours of Grand Theft Auto the game instincts remained in me. Why not peel around corners, and pass slow cars using the sidewalk while running over pedestrians? You kind of have to remember that you are not in the game. In fact, when I saw a cop in real life, I felt this wave of fear and remorse for all the virtual bad stuff I had been doing all night and thought he was going to chase me down. Just like the dream in which you commit all kinds of heinous crimes and wake up and think for a while you have really done them all and ruined your life, Grand Theft Auto leaves an impression.
