A while ago I saw an article about a study in the 50's or 60's that claimed to show that a huge percentage of our thinking and behavior is consumed by worrying about how we appear to others. Like if I am talking to someone, I can expect that 50% of their thought power is being devoted to whether I can smell their breath or find their hair too shaggy. Or a guy walking across the street is like 100% concerned with what the people in cars waiting at the light think of his gait. Anyway, I can't find the right keywords to find this book or author or his work and if anyone can help, well that would be tremendous. 4:45:13 PM ![]() |

I have been enjoying Assembling California by John McPhee. Here is an exerpt. it is ten hours of description of mountains, people, earthquakes and science and it helps make drving I-94 every morning in January bearable. I got it from Hennepin County Library, which has several other McPhee books on tape.
