Mgmt Clarifications
U2's Bono: Our Manager Wrong On Radiohead, But ISP Profiteering 'Disturbing'. U2 manager Paul McGuinness may this year have become one of the music industry's biggest advocates of action against ISPs and social networks, but not all of his comments have been supported by the band he represents. Earlier this month, McGuinness told BBC 6Music Radiohead's pay-what-you-like In Rainbows release had "to some extent backfired" because "60 to 70 per cent of the people who downloaded the record stole it anyway even though it was available for free".
But Bono wrote a letter to this week's NME to say "we disagree with Paul's assessment": "We think they were courageous and imaginative in trying to figure out some new relationship with their audience. Such imagination and courage are in short supply right now." Which doesn't suggest U2 are about to go the same way, however. Bono backed the rest of his manager's view: "It is disturbing to see internet service providers and technology companies profit from the so-called 'disintermediation' of the music business when so many music lovers are losing their jobs."

2 B Paying Us Our Money
Email from Romania. I'm 22 years old and I'm from Romania. I admire your work and have been listening to your music for over 7 years.
I've never bought your music, I downloaded your albums from torrents, peer-to-peer, direct-connect or rapidshare.
My promise is that I'll begin buying your records with the first paycheck or money I'll make on my own. It's probably no comfort for you to know but I feel awkward about enjoying your music and not expressing my gratitude in some way and yearn to relief myself from this feeling.
Nice letter. Thank you.

Christiane F. - Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo
We can be heroes just for one day. Christiane F was a 1981 German film that portrayed the life of young heroin addicts growing up in 1970's Berlin. Notable for the collaboration of David Bowie, the film became well known for its realistic portrayal of drug use. The film's impact was helped by the involvement of David Bowie who agreed to the use of his songs for the film and also performed during a concert scene. The album released at the time also provides a very good selection of Berlin-era Bowie songs, such as Heroes and the haunting instrumental Sense Of Doubt.
Based on the book Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo, itself based on interviews and articles in Stern magazine, the plot follows the true story of Christiane Felscherinow and her gradual descent into drug use and prostitution. Although the story is very harrowing, there remains a sense of hope at the end.
Following the film's release, Christiane became something of a cult figure and attracts the interest of various fan sites. Christiane Felscherinow now lives in Berlin with her son. [MetaFilter]

Crayonsmith
DOWNLOAD: Crayonsmith Lost in the Forest + All the Elders.
Crayonsmith hail from Dublin, Ireland, and make upbeat indie pop with a touch of electro - a little strangely, as their sound is quite similar to American bands such as Of Montreal and the Spinto Band. It makes for a great guitar-and-keyboard-driven smorgasbord of war 'n' fuzzy pop hooks. They band's first LP, Stay Loose, made us fall in love with them, thus their status as a brand new RCRD LBL signing. This week, Crayonsmith are wrapping up a US tour with Islands, then going back to Ireland to work on their upcoming sophomore album. We'll be following them closely, as we[base ']re sure you will after sampling "Lost in the Forest" and "All the Elders" from Stay Loose.
Sounds like: The Spinto Band, Of Montreal
