OurMedia.org: Here Comes the Rush
As I said yesterday, this past week marked a new phase for podcasting. This new site looks very, very interesting. Of course it's only addressing part of the podcast space - store and listen, not production. But it's going way beyond podcasting/audio. Click through to J.D. Lasica's blog for an interesting inside look at OurMedia.org and the rest of their team. And Doc's last line is really starting to sink in for me.
A quick digression: my father-in-law is 87 now. Repaired TV's for years as a hobby. Great man; honest, happy, and very competent. Some years back he had to give up the hobby - something about carrying TV consoles up and down the basement stairs! Anyhow, now he spends time on his PC. We were in a large computer store some time ago and he paused and said to me, "I love this stuff. I wish I was born 20 years later so I could stay around and see where this all leads." Poignant. I take him to that store ever time I get back to visit. This Easter I'll be introducing him to podcasting. Kind of a book end to my previous entry below on My First iPod.
Ourmedia is up. J.D. has the story.
Marc and I believe that real change in the mediasphere will only come about when millions of us pick up the tools of digital creativity. The tools are now at hand. Let's go.
It's becoming plain that the lion's share of first sources for future media goods are the masses that the old media dismissed as "consumers."

Cute, very cute. Just keep the kid away from Dawn & Drew for a few years.

Our second son is due next Friday, the 25th and we've been setting up his crib. We got a bunch of baby lullabies on multiple CDs and I thought it would be cool to rip them all, put the MP3s on a spare iPod and "Pimp His Crib" with a JBL OnStage.[Gizmodo]
The OnStage is held securely via 2 wood screws (the wife was worse than OSHA in making sure the thing wouldn't drop and give the new guy an everlasting JBL imprint on his forehead) and the iPod sits in a belt clip carrying case and attaches to one of the ties from the crib bumper.
Next up is trying to mount an old 15" Powerbook to the end of the crib for video playback.
