Podcatching with iTunes

Bill R.:

I was off-line (i.e., preoccupied on vacation) when iTunes 4.9 came out. From a first order user perspective, its good. See the video below for a great overview of podcatching with iTunes 4.9.

With this release, Apple made it easy to subscribe to podcasts, both via their directory and with simple URL drag-and-drop. But second order the content leaves a bit to be desired. I've been listening to podcasts since the beginning (or at least 'sort of the beginning') on 13 Aug 2004. There are lots of podcasts missing from the Apple directory. And while they did a great job with the drag-and-drop ease of subscribing, the other side of the story - how a podcaster forms his feeds to make Apple happy - is not so nice. Result is in the short term, some really good podcasts are being inhibited by Apple's unilateral approach beneath the covers.

I really believe Apple with fix this in time. In any case, marks another up-turn in the adoption of podcasts.
