In the following steps the site administrator could be done by a member of the school staff, or by an independent consultant.  In either case, we, or a third party, may have provided training and/or certification to the administrator.

The site administrator goes to our website and downloads our distribution package.  He or she has a choice between a complete installer which includes the Linux operating system, or packages containing our application server and modules.  The Linux package provides the option of operating system installation support from a commercial vendor at a discounted rate.  The application server is free software and redistributed by us at no cost. 

When the administrator runs the installer, he or she chooses from a selection of components or products to add to their site, including:

• our core components, including:
• balanced literacy assessment tools
• standards-based asssessment tools
• a clinical case management system
• a Schools Information Framework agent (to communicate with other applications)
• a library of small, useful utilities developed on-site at other schools
• a library of standard open-source web-collaboration tools, such as:
• mailing list management
• weblogs
• Lotus-notes style knowledge management tools
• bulletin boards
• wikis
• demos of commercial products which work with our system
