The American Library Association is fighting to expand the number of books it can offer over the internet to patrons, which could allow more than one person to rent and read the same copy of a book at the same time. Several companies are helping libraries to provide this service, including netLibrary, ebrary, and RosettaBooks. Publishers, however, have been working to strengthen copy control and lobby against lending over the internet.
