| | The United States Constitution introduced the concept that all people are fundamentally entitled to the legal protection of certain basic rights, which may have created the perfect foundation for a vibrant, diverse, and united country. Unfortunately, the compromise between these high asperations and the reality of racial and gender-based constitutional distinctions meant that, despite the Civil War and the dramatic gains of the Civil Rights movement, equality and opportunity for all Americans remains out of reach over two hundred years later. Unlike other Civil Liberties, which protect our freedoms from government power, freedom from discrimination applies to many other interactions in our daily lives, such as private business, housing, and employment. |

ACLU of Texas testifies against racially biased investigation
