Subject: [irls] Renewal of EBSCOhost access

The renewal process for EBSCOhost has changed this year.  Instead of everyone sending in a renewal form, the State Library will invoice all current subscribers. Invoices will be dated June 1, 2005 and mailed after Memorial Day weekend.  This should facilitate agencies that need to pay before July 1 and also accommodate those that want to pay after July 1. The invoice will be mailed to the person and address listed in the online directory at

The invoice will cover the databases in the statewide contract. Libraries that subscribe to additional databases such as Auto Reference Center, NoveList and others will receive a renewal notice directly from EBSCO.

For public libraries, the cost is $25 and $.025 per population, an increase from $.02 per population. The population figures are taken from the 2000 census (and any adjusted census figures) and listed on the State Library's online directory. Invoices will be mailed to current EBSCOhost subscribers only.

A sign-up form will be available for new subscribers at a later date.

Contact Judy Jones with any questions.

ABOUT THE LSA:
Van Delivery Dates:

Please do not send any items through the van system that needs to go to a library in AEA 1 {Keystone} area after today (5/27/04).  Their final delivery dates are June 2 & 3 and items will end up sitting somewhere over the summer and it will not be your library.

Also for the AEA 267 delivery area, the last delivery for the school year will be June 8 & 9.  They will however resume summer delivery on June 14 & 15.

Anything that needs to go to a library in the AEA 1 area needs to be mailed, please do not send anything to them using the van delivery system until we notify you that delivery has started up again in the fall.

WebJunction Turns 2:  This very month, WebJunction celebrates its second anniversary.  Since its beginnings two years ago, the website “where minds meet” has grown to include 6 community partners, 13,000 members, 1,900 pieces of content, 50 online courses, and 6,000 messages posted to the online discussion forums.

The State Library of Iowa is one of those community partners.  “WebJunction Iowa” is our own state-specific site, made possible through a partnership between the State Library, OCLC, and the Gates Foundation.   As the website explains, “…this is an online community where library staff in Iowa meet to share ideas, solve problems, take online courses—and have fun.  We're part of a network of WebJunction communitiesRegister now (it's free) and join us.  If you're looking for help and support related to computers and technology, then “WebJunction Iowa” is your place for online courses, technical support, software and hardware reviews, policy and planning advice…”  This is the place to be: http://ia.webjunction.org (also linked from the State Library’s webpage: http://www.silo.lib.ia.us)

Many of you attended NWILS series of FRONTPAGE and POWERPOINT classes this month.  Those classes were geared at an introductory level, aiming to acquaint people with the basic features of those programs.  Here’s an idea: continue to learn more and sharpen your skills by taking an online course in FRONTPAGE or POWERPOINT through WebJunction
Iowa.  The address above will point the way to these and other online classes.  Give it a whirl—again, these classes are free through WebJunction Iowa!
