Updated Spring 2006 Stories and More

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING MESSAGE CAREFULLY AND CONTACT LISA ALBERS AT
lisa@iptv.org <mailto:lisa@iptv.org> , (800) 532-1290, or (515) 242-6279 IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS.

Greetings Librarians,

During the spring semester, Iowa Public Television (IPTV) and the State Library of Iowa are sponsoring a FREE series of five (5) ICN events called Stories & More featuring stories and activities that center on a monthly theme to institutions and programs that workdirectly with Iowa's preschool through Kindergarten children.

Stories & More sessions are offered twice (9:30-10:15 a.m. and 10:30-11:15 a.m.) on the second or third Wednesday of each
month. Registrants are encouraged to register for all five of the monthly events in the spring semester Stories & More series. It is
not necessary for the same children to attend every session.

Spring 2006 themes include:
Wednesday, January 18 - Stories & More: ABC's
Wednesday, February 15 - Stories & More: Physical Activity
Wednesday, March 15 - Stories & More: Food
Wednesday, April 12 - Stories & More: Environment
Wednesday, May 17 - Stories & More: Diversity

What are libraries responsible to do?
  1. Register for each of the ICN events that you would like your library to participate in. We encourage you to sign up for the
entire series! See the "Registration Directions" listed further down in this email.
  2. Get a group of PK-first grade children (ages 4-7) to participate for an ICN site in your community. Some libraries have
contacted preschools in their communities to participate in the sessions.
  3. Be in the ICN classroom for each event as a monitor/helper to the children from the community. If you don't have an
ICN room in your library, you can still participate in this opportunity, but you will need to make sure the ICN room you are using is expecting your group of children and you are responsible for supervision.
  4. Provide minimal materials, like paper, pencil, crayons, markers, or scissors for the session participants at your local site.
Each session has a little bit different list of materials that will be used at your local site during the ICN session for the planned
    activities.
How do I register my library to participate?
YOU MAY WANT TO PRINT THESE DIRECTIONS
  1. Go to Iowa Distance Learning Database Web site: http://www.iptv.org/iowa_database/
  2. Click on the K-12 Calendar link in the upper left-hand corner.
  3. Clicking on the little red arrows will move you from month to month.
  4. Click on the title of the session to find out more information about the session.
  5. Read the event details - description, time and audience for the session. If interested in participating in the session, scroll
to the bottom of the page and click on the Register here link. Follow the directions. Be sure to notice the registration deadline date. The Register here link will NOT appear after the deadline.
  6. Enter your Zip Code.
  7. Select one of the following: Child Care Provider/Parent, Homeschooler, Library, or Other (everyone else) OR if you are a school, select your school from the list (where you are located, not ICN location).
  8. Fill out ALL the information requested (check twice to make sure all information is accurate) and click the Register Now
    button.
  9. Your registration has been sent. Print the following sheet.
  10. Click on the K-12 Calendar link to schedule another session. Repeat the process.

As always, IPTV is thrilled to be working with libraries again this spring. Please contact me directly if you have questions.
