Game #6: Steelers vs. Vikings [20-12]

Game 6:

Steelers vs. Vikings

It was a cold and windy day when the Steelers met the Vikings.  In the opening drive of the game, the Steelers warmed things up with a reverse to Joe Ippolito (#87) who took it 49 yards for a touchdown.  The extra point was taken in by Ryan Hilt (#55), making the score a quick 7-0.  Defense then took over and slowed the Vikings down a bit.  However, early in the 2nd quarter, the Vikings did score on a tough 3rd and one stand by the Steelers.  On the extra point attempt, Joe Rafinski (#52) knocked down the pass and held the score to 7-6.

When they got the ball back, the Steelers pounded down the field again.  Then came a 17-yard pass from quarterback Tim Bado (#27) to Dave Iacoponi (#39) for touchdown number two.  A crushing blow stopped Joe Ippolito (#87) just short on the extra point attempt.  This put the Steelers up 13-6 at half time.

At the start of the second half, the Steelers once again found themselves defending their goal line.  First and goal, held.  Second and goal, held.  Third and goal, held.  Finally, on their last attempt, the Vikings fall forward and score.  The extra point is no good and the score stands at 13-12 to end the 3rd quarter.  A rare nail-biter for the Steelers is in progress.

In the fourth quarter, the Steeler offense pulls together and Ryan Hilt (#55) gets a couple of important first downs.  Then it’s time for another reverse to Joe Ippolito (#87) who takes it down field 35 yards for another TD.  He then follows it up for the extra point and the score is 20-12, Steelers.  The Vikings start driving again and the defense has to get tough.  PJ Serio rushes the QB, Fred Hacker (#53), Nathan Tout (#42) and Ryan Hilt (#55) combine for some great tackles and then look out – Creed Callham (#48) is in the perfect position to intercept the Viking pass.  The ball is back to the Steelers with just a couple of minutes left in the game.  Tim Bado (#27) keeps the ball and turns outside.  Just as he’s about to get tackled, in comes Joe Ippolito (#87) to put a punishing hit on the defender.  Time runs out and the Steelers have their 6th straight win in 6 straight games!!
