Children's Mental Health Aid Found Lacking (Virginia)
Washington Post story - "Thousands of children across Virginia who have serious mental and behavioral disorders are not getting the services and treatment they need from the state, according to a new report. The report, commissioned by the Virginia mental health department and issued by a state mental-health work group, stated that an estimated 62,000 young people with mental illness, behavioral disorders and emotional problems are not being adequately served."
Compromise on mental health bill (UK)
Story in the Guardian - "Health ministers have persuaded David Blunkett, the home secretary, to water down proposals in the mental health bill that would have allowed the compulsory treatment of potentially dangerous people who had committed no crime. A revised bill will be presented to a parliamentary scrutiny committee next month providing extra safeguards for mentally ill people."
$12.8M plan urged for Mental Health Center (Wisconsin)
Green Bay Press Gazette story - "A Brown County Mental Health Center renovation plan that was unveiled Wednesday calls for reducing the number of beds, closing the adolescent unit and fixing up the existing center for $12.8 million. Brown County Executive Carol Kelso, Human Services Director Allen Parks and an architect from Raasch Associates presented the plan to the County Board on Wednesday. The recommendations largely mirror those made by the Mental Health Center Task Force, which earlier this year called for remodeling and downsizing the facility."![]()
