HHS Awards $21.85 Million To Fund Minority Substance Abuse/HIV Prevention Programs
HHS press release - "Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy G. Thompson today awarded almost $21.85 million in grants to support effective substance abuse prevention services that are integrated with HIV prevention services directed at youth and other at-risk populations in minority communities. Grant money will also be targeting creation of prevention infrastructure in affected communities."

Early pressures tied to drug abuse
Boston Globe story on a study published in the academic journal Child Development, in which "researchers paint a troubling picture of early and excessive substance-abuse among well-to-do adolescents, triggered, they found, by social isolation and the pressure - even at such an early age - to get into a top college."
