MOVIE - LILO AND STITCH - $$$$$ $$$ (OUT OF 10) ANIMATED and VOICED BY: DAVEIGH CHASE, CHRIS SANDERS, JASON SCOTT LEE, TIA CARRERE, KEVIN MACDONALD, DAVID OGDEN STIERS & VING RHAMES This Walt Disney production is premised on the escape of an alien criminal to Earth. Lilo, an orphaned young girl living with her older sister, thinking the alien is a dog adopts it and names it Stitch. Other aliens are sent to retrieve Stitch and the story proceeds from there. I know what you may be thinking. This is standard Disney family values fare. It is, but nobody does it better, than Disney. Lilo and Stitch, thank-you, thank-you very much (say with elvis accent) is a very good family movie. Tom Cuise plays the lead detective in the precrime division of the Washington, D.C. Police Force. With the help of 3 precognitive individuals, Cruise et al, have prevented all murders in the past 6 years. The system is about to be implemented nationwide and the story precedes from there. This is a taunt thriller with numerous themes running through it. The opening scene, which sets the stage for the unfolding drama, unfolds in dramatic fashion. For the most part, this level of intensity is maintained throughout the movie. What makes this a smart story is that it considers its audience to be smart as well. We are not hit over the head with the message and are left, for the most part, to arrive at the conclusion the movie does. For those not heeding the message there are great action scenes, sophisticated humour and small details to relish.
