MOVIE- SCHOOL OF ROCK - Review Rating $$$$$ $$ (OUT OF 10)

STARRING - Jack Black (Dewey Finn), Joan Cusack (Principal Mullins), Mike White (Ned Schneebly), Miranda Cosgrove (Summer), Sarah Silverman (Patty), Joey Gaydos (Zack) & Maryam Hassan (Tomika).

DIRECTOR - Richard Linklater (Waking Life, Tape, Before Sunrise, Slacker & Dazed and Confused)

Jack Black is Dewey Finn and I mean that both figuratively and literally. If there ever was a role more closely suited to the personality of the actor portraying the character I can't think of it. Its Black's obvious devotion to the power of Rock & Roll that provides School Of Rock with his comedic heart.

The script, more charming than outrageously funny, will draw you into Finn's world. You can't help but laugh with, and at, the underdog loser so firmly committed to the belief that Rock & Roll can save the world and himself.

The transformation of the kids from chronic overachievers to let your shirt hangout rebels is not only amusing to watch but a valuable lesson for overbearing parents. School Of Rock reminds us that there is more to life than straight A's.

You know I'd never give away the ending but the dramatic conclusion to the School Of Rock is much more compelling than the emotionless, conventional and trite ending of 8 Mile.

"The Man" would approve of this comedic ode to following your dreams.

Running time - 108 minutes
