Based on the novel, Big Fish: A Novel of Mythic Proportions, by Daniel Wallace.
Big Fish is certainly big but not always brilliant. Oddly enough, the same force that breathes life into the familiar tale of generational conflict hurts the movie as often as it helps. Big Fish is one of those films that the viewer has to decide early on whether they are going to buy into the concept or not. If you don't see the charm in the larger than life, and some would say over the top, nature of the story than you won't feel compelled to stay to the end.
Big Fish is a fresh take on generational estrangement wrapped in very colorful and creative paper that won't appeal to everyone.
Running time - 125 minutes
