MOVIE - WELCOME TO MOOSEPORT - Review Rating $$$$$ (OUT OF 10)
STARRING - Gene Hackman (Monroe Cole), Ray Romano (Handy Harrison),
Marcia Gay Harden (Grace Sutherland), Maura Tierney (Sally Mannis), Christine Baranski (Charlotte Cole), Fred Savage (Bullard) & Rip Torn (Bert Langdon).
DIRECTOR - Donald Petrie (Miss Congeniality, Grumpy Old Men, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Mystic Pizza & Richie Rich)
Sometimes when stars of the little screen make the leap to the big screen they are seeking the opportunity to demonstrate the range and extent of their talent. On other occasions the motive for making the jump is merely to cash in on the star's current popularity. Welcome to Mooseport clearly falls into the latter category.
Welcome To Mooseport essentially amounts to a two hour Everybody Loves Raymond special. If your a fan of Romano's emasculated male persona then you may be able to overlook the movie's other flaws. If your not a fan there is nothing else in Welcome To Mooseport that would justify even renting it.
The funniest parts of the film revolve around President Cole (Hackman). However, Welcome To Mooseport is allegedly a romantic comedy so the political satire gets muddled in the name of mending broken hearts.
Not everyone will love Raymond after watching this overly long romantic comedy that turns out to be short on both romance and comedy.
Running time - 110 minutes
