NY Times: "Pet food stores weren't the killer app for the Web, but peer-reviewed scholarly journals might be." [Scripting News]

I am so laughing my ass off. Of course, anyone who was around at the time will recognize this as PRECISELY why Tim Berners-Lee and the guys at CERN created HTML and HTTP in the first place. All those physics folks wanted live footnote links in their papers and instant feedback from their peers. Instead, we got a network full of titty pictures and on-line sales brochures. Funny that the NY Times should have the brilliant idea that the Web be used as originally intended!
