| One of the movies to kick off the Anime craze in the US and the world, Akira presents a darker and more detailed world than most kids shows. There's violent battles and some explicit action. But there's also a complex relationship between the two lead characters as one loses his identity. Many of the themes of modern anime are here---identity, new and confusing powers and strange forces running a corrupt world. Along with Ghost in the Shell, Akira is a visual big-screen treat and a template for much of the anime produced in the last 15 years. |
