Movie: Blue Velvet
Year: 1986 Category: Dark Director: David Lynch Big Stars: Kyle MacLachlan, Dennis Hopper, Laura Dern |
Turning over the dark underbelly of a small northwestern town, David Lynch sets the stage for his wildly inventive television series Twin Peaks. Blue Velvet seems innocent enough---white picket fences, dogs playing in water sprinklers---at the beginning. Even our hero, Jeffery played by Kyle MacLachlan, seems like a straight-ahead, nice guy. But he's slowly pulled into a darker world. This darker world is the symbolized by Frank, played by Dennis Hopper. Frank likes Pabst Blue Ribbon, inhaling oxygen and terrorizing lounge singer Isabella Rossellini. But even nice guys like Jeffery have a darker side. |
