Course Description: This course focuses on journalism reinterpreted through the microphone and camera. The course emphasizes writing and journalism skills as it is married to the more technical act of recording audio and video. The course can be used in conjunction with radio and television production, journalism, and news editing.

Assignments and Grading: The bulk of the final grade will come from weekly radio and TV stories the students produce for the campus radio and TV station. Students will generate their own story ideas as well as the research and reporting of their stories. Then, the students will be instructed in the correct form and style of broadcast writing.
There will also be two tests based on lectures and the reading as well as in-class assignments. The students will also work in groups to write, edit and produce two television newscasts, one 15 minutes long and one 30 minutes long. There will also be guest lecturers and possibly a field trip. The assignments fall into three categories:

Small (30 pts.)--In-class assignments, quizzes.
Medium (60 pts.)--Some out-of-class assignments, script rundowns, newscast participation.
Large (100 pts.)--Stories for KWSC-TV and KWSC-FM, tests.

All out-of-class assignments must be typed and turned in on or before class time of due date. Any unexcused late assignments will receive no points. Also, unexcused absences lose any point accrued in that day’s in-class exercise.
