Today, I ran across this story on how using the CD requires you to upgrade to a Digital Rights Management version of Windows Media Player, and isn't very clear about the implications of this upgrade for the user. To be clearer: this upgrade permits Microsoft and people who pay them money for DRM licenses the power over what you do on your PC. Upgrade and you are losing abilities you have now.
There's something particularly ironic about using an Elvis Costello sampler as a distribution technique, though I don't suppose he was asked his opinion on the matter.
