Getting fitted for my anorak

British fans sometimes talk about someone being an anorak wearer, or an anorak, for short. I don't understand the derivation, but the phrase means someone who's whole lifestyle is "sad", in a geeky kind of way. Trainspotters are classic anoraks.

It's sad and anorakish when you know the location of all the power outlets at various coffeeshops. I just got done helping a fellow Mac user find a place to plug in. We did the cultish thing where we compared hardware specs; he "only" had a Mac G3 (it's a great machine, and the one I used until a few months ago), but he assured me that it was the "Bronze" model, and I knew what he meant.   Permanent Link
