Interesting rant on Adam Curry's weblog. We need to affect how people use bandwidth, too (every University does), and one issue is going to be how we go about it. The Quality of Service Working Group at Internet2 has some interesting presentations archived there; I'm particularly fond of QOS Applicances Cause Cancer and Global Warning .

Here's where it gets weird, instead of a representative of the company calling me and congratulating me on being one of their best customers and selling me more bandwidth, hey punish me.

Even after I used their online system to purchase more bandwidth, it will still take 5 days to get my full broadband connection back. Essentially the punishment consists of throttling all of your bandwidth. Up and Downstream, which doesn't make sense, since I haven't even used half of my downstream limit.
