From the Chronicle of Higher Education: a ban on Windows NT and Windows 2000 use in the residential (dormitory) network of UC-Santa Barbara because it's been implicated in too many security problems. There's a telling quote from a Microsoft spokesperson:

"It's nothing endemic to the software," Mr. DuBois says. "They're basically running an Internet in the open for their residential students. They have the same kinds of problem that any open computer network will have."

In other words, the product that they've just been touting as secure cannot be used on the Internet without special restrictions.   Permanent Link
