Life's a show, and we all play our parts

The New York Times has anarticle about using novels to teach economics. By coincidence, this morning I was rummaging in a box of books and had grabbed my copy of Selling the Wheel, which is an easy read on marketing that features characters that sound an awful lot like people I've worked with.

I'm glad to see this technique becoming more acceptable in teaching; putting stuff in a story format gives people like me a framework to help remember it. Mark Pilgrim's Dive Into Accessibility uses a related narrative technique of using named characters with specific needs to drive the changes he recommends. One of my coworkers lives by Visio flowcharts to organize his specifications, but flowcharts rarely help me much. Stories are much more likely to reach me.   Permanent Link
