Joel talks about the ins and outs of the install that he has written for FogBUGZ. It's hugely important to spend the time writing a good installation for your product (even if you end up using WISE), and it is one of those things that many software shops leave until the last part of the product development cycle. That's exactly wrong. As soon as your software becomes good enough to use internally, you need to have an install program for it. You need the feedback on this critical part of your first impression, and you will certainly have to tune it for usability.
