Speaking of real time regulation, Ann Marie Healy reports on Z+Blog about a pigeons+blogs sensing and reporting system:

These birds are the first iteration of pigeon bloggers, set loose with GPS receivers, air pollution sensors and a basic cellphone. They have been given the task of measuring the levels of air pollutants and their tools allow them to beam back the results to a real time blog.

The hope, in addition to the data itself, is that this will:

inspire people to come up with more creative and effective means of monitoring the degradation of the environment.

Big business and creative opportunities, I think.

Seth Godin's been bringing his marketing brain to issues close to my heart.

What do the Dubai port deal, the numa numa video, Danish cartoons and yellow wristbands have in common?

They all spread because they were easy to spread. At the same time that climate cancer languishes in the background, voters inundate Congress with phone calls about the port deal. And pundits are surprised--shocked!--at how irrational the public is.

The mystery is resolved, says Seth, by understanding that

The best problems, as far as a consumer is concerned, are those that can be solved quickly and easily, with few side effects.

The new mystery -- no, not a mystery, just a challenge: design bite-sized steps/actions/initiatives that take big bites.

I've been on such a flat run the last two weeks -- project deliverables, speaking gigs, writing deadlines (including the WorldChanging book), that I've found little time to blog. So I'm trying out ecto, to see if that will help streamline the process by letting me blog offline (something Radio doesn't seem to do very well.)

Today: coming to you from Boulder CO, at the Integral Weekend Intensive on Sustainability and Ecology, preview to the five day Integral Sustainability course in September; I'll be one of the faculty there. (Link to come.)

(That was yesterday; didn't quite get the settings right. Back in CA today, and off to Ecological Assets in Business Conference. Ah, so much to talk about...)
