State of the Blogs Address: Dave's "First Essay of the Year"
Dave Winer published his "First Essay of the Year". If you are new to blogging or want to know more about the current state of it, it's a good read.

Jeremy Allaire, of ColdFusion fame, has posted his thoughts on this essay. He has interesting ponderings of the present and is always thinking about what's next.

Keep up-to-date with news re: Apple's new browser
Dave Hyatt, the one who brought OS X users Chimera, is involved in Apple's Safari web browser development and is detailing it's progress on his weblog. Anxious to hear if they are working on a specific bug that you have reported, this is where you may hear it first. Don't look here for news about upcoming UI and feature enhancements as he, as a faithful Apple employee, has committed himself to silence regarding these matters.

Difficult solutions for those that like it easy...
J2EE Servers Reach Planet Apple : JRun 4 for Mac OS X could provide a low-cost alternative to some pricey Java servers now running on Unix or Windows. (ADTmag.com via MyAppleMenu) [MyAppleMenu]

Macromedia has said that they will decide whether or not to build a OS X native version of Coldfusion based on how well JRUN sells. You can now, with the release of JRUN for OS X run a J2EE developer version of ColdFusion on OS X. I wonder though, how many people are going to buy a copy of JRUN if you can only run a developer version of CF on it. Besides, people use Macintosh computers because they are so easy to set up and maintain. I hate to think that the release of relatively easy-to-use software like ColdFusion will be based on the sales of an advanced solution like JRUN. I think that actual sales of CF for OS X would be much much stronger than any thing that the JRUN trial will indicate.

Some are calling this "open-source". I don't think so.
