So, what does a grip (a photographer's assistant) do? She "grips" (carries) all of the bags/cases of equipment. Susan had two large padded cases that held three cameras and multiple lenses, a large case that held the power supply and multiple cords, lights, etc for the lights, a very heavy long case that held the tripods, and a large duffle bag that held everything else. Sarah unpacked everything and set it up, set up the lights and the huge light umbrella, adjusted and readjusted the lights, loaded the various types of film, labeled the used film, reloaded the film, stood in for light checks, ran the light meter, consulted on the lighting and composition, set the f stops on the camera, combed my hair, adjusted L.'s shirt, smoothed out my sweater numerous times, kept adjusting the wrinkles in my slacks, swept the leaves off the deck railing, moved the big flower pots, moved the furniture in the living room, moved all the furniture back when they were finished, packed everything up, carried all the bags out to the car and stowed them away.
