Give me a Stock any day; It represents something tangible.
If I buy shares of Dell, I can check the price of Dell shares using my Dell computer. If I own shares of Walmart, I can shop there or at least check the crowd in the parking lot.
But Mutual Funds are another story.
I've spent the morning checking the mutual funds owned by a trust fund that is part of the assests of an organization I'm VP.
The management firms, such as Chicago Equity Partners, Wellington Management, and State Street Global Advisors, sell the funds to Accessor who packages them as Accessor Funds. Accessor sells them to the Bank. The Bank sells them to the Trust Fund.
Talk about Middle Men! Give me straight shares of Intel, Dell, D. R. Horton, Walmart, Coke, and Pfizer. Give me something that I can touch and feel. In the Trust Fund the Dell computer is 4 layers away. Think of the fees and transaction costs involved. I promise I won't gripe so much about commission charges on my stock trades. (I shouldn't gripe at all---great online rates, and fabulous in-person-rates here in town.)
