Another Kind of Memorial (Day)
Daughter sent this link to an online article she read this morning.
I read the article and took time to explore one of the online exhibits----extremely well done!
I chose Kristallnacht because I had a friend who lived through it, was arrested and released after several days, and was able to make his way to the U.S. and Anchorage.
Lest we forget for an instant that the veneer of being civilized is so thin and so fragil.
In the face of evil silence denotes agreement. (From a comfortable chair in front of my computer it is easy to say that!)
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me, and there was no one left to speak for me.
