Nordy's Fall Preview Sale---A Mid-Summer Ritual
I did something I haven't done for fifteen years---arrived at Nordstrom's only slightly after the doors opened for their Anniversary Sale. I just decided last night that I would venture out early this morning and check out potential fall clothes.
I replenished my black trouser supply--2 pairs--one washable and one dry cleanable. And I bought a tapestry jacket and a bright T for my New York trip next week.
All in all, I purchased slightly more than last year but significantly more than several previous years. Almost everyone was walking out with large shopping sacks. I have seen years--2002, 2001, 2000--when there were by far more empty-handed shoppers leaving the store than there were shoppers with Nordstrom bags.
So, I would say the economy will be making a modest recovery.
