 PARRY SHOCKS AUSSIES TO TAKE BACKSTROKE GOLD

Butterfly specialist Steve Parry showed the depth of his talent in Melbourne tonight to take gold in the 200m Backstroke against a class field that included world champion over 100m and favourite for the event Australian Matt Welsh. But Parry is coming into the best form of his life at the moment and at the Australian leg of the FINA World Cup he took the fight to the hosts to surpass all expectations, including his own, to touch home ahead of the chasing pack.

 CAN BRITAIN'S SWIMMERS CUT THE MUSTARD?

Fourteen British swimmers fly out to Germany today anticipating a gruelling four days competition at the European Short Course Championships that get under way on Thursday in Riesa.
The mixture of senior and junior swimmers will take on the best European swimming nations with a distinct disadvantage. Unlike the Germans, Swedes or Italians, the Brits are in full heavy training which means they are not rested and ready to swim fast. Indeed this could make them several seconds slower.
